Of Students

  1. A group of students from Paschim Guwahati Mahavidyalaya presented a variety of cultural programs at the cultural stage of the 12th North- East Book Fair held at the Chandmari Engineering Institute Playground on 16th December 2010.
  2. Machin Hussain and Nripendra Das of Degree 1st Year (Arts) had represented Assam in the 5th Sub-Junior National Tennis ball Cricket Championships held at Margo-Goa from 13th to 16th May, 2010.  Machin Hussain has been selected for the nation team to play at Bangkok during September, 2010.
  3. Sri Utpal Kalita of B.Com 1st Year had represented Kamrup in the 17th All Assam Senior Men, Women Kung-Fu Championship 2010 in 48-52 KG Weight Category  and secured 2nd position (Silver) , which was held on 9,10 and 11th April 2010. He had also secured 1st position in the 2nd senior Men Kamrup dist. (Metro) Wushu Championship held at Nehru Stadium, Ghy.
  4. Samar Jyoti Das of H.S. Final Year (Arts) has won the gold medal in Kamrup Dist. In ‘Jyoti Sangeet Competition. Shortly this student is going to put his first step in audio cassette recording in an Assamese Audio Album – ‘Khoj’.
  5. Two students has brought laurels to our college in the recently concluded Inter College youth Festival, leld at G.U. They are : Jublee Saheba (H.S. 2nd year, Arts) who got 2nd prize in Sugam sangeet, 3rd in Jyoti Sangeet, 3rd in Rabha Geet and in Loka Geet. Mridula Kalita of H.S. 1st year Arts got 2nd position in Art competition.
  6. Received  the Third Best Drama Team award in the Inter College One Act  competition ,Gauhati University, organized by Cotton College Students Union, held at Cotton College, Guwahati on 28th October,2010. Also Miss Monalisa Das of H.S. 1st Year(Arts) received the Second Best Actress award in the same event.
  7. The College cricket team has secured the Runners-up (running trophy) position in the Lauha Purush Premada Kanta Sarma memorial Inter College Cricket Tournament held at Latasil play ground, Guwahati,from 19th Nov. to 3rd December 2010.The tournament was organized by NEEDS.
  8. The team representing the college received the Third Best Debating team award in the Ranjit Choudhury Memorial inter College debating competition held at SBMS College, Sualkuchi on 8th December 2010.
  9. Mr Ganesh Kalita, a student of TDC 1st Year (Arts) secured the first position in the weight-lifting competition organized by the Assam Weightlifting Association in the under 56 Kg castegory (Overall, Snatch & C & Jerk).
  10. Mr Gagan Barua, a student of TDC 1st Year took part in the National Games-like North East Sports Festival, 2005, 21st National Junior, 2005, 17th National Inter-zonal Championships, and 5th Federation Cup National Junior Championship, 2005, securing Gold medals in the first two games and Bronze medals in the other two games respectively in the event of High Jump. At the State level also, he secured a Gold Medal in the 32nd Inter-District Athletic Championship in the event of High Jump.
  11. Mr Abdul Hannan of HS 2nd Year (Arts), participated as player in the 28th Junior (Boys) National Handball Championship in the under 19 years category, organized by the UP Handball Association from June 6 – 12, 2005. He also participated in and won various prizes in the state-level Handball competitions. At present he is undergoing training in handball under the SAI.
  12. Mr Jugal Talukdar has participated in various competiotions like the All Assam Rural Sports 1,500 m race (boys), Dakshin Kamrup Krira Santha 2006 3,000 m race, Assam Kho Kho Championship 2006, etc. and secured quite a number of prizes.
  13. Mr Krishna Jyoti Das, Mr Bhrigu Kumar Das and Mr Sanjeeb Sarma, students of the college, have participated in various camps like the National Integration Camps, Northeast Initiative for Peace and Development, etc. at various places of India.
  14. Ms. Swapna Pathak, a student of B.Com 2nd yr had been in the Final Round of ‘Voice of Axom’ the first musical programme initiated by N E Television, Guwahati and had been honoured with the prestigious Judges’ Choice Award.
  15. Mr. Hemen Baishya of B.A. 2nd yr is a SAI Scholarship holder and at present undergoing training at SAI Complex. He had represented Kamrup District in the 34th All Assam Junior Inter-District Athletic Championship, held at nagaon from 1st May to 4th May, 2008 and won the second place in 400 mtr race.
  16. Ratul Ali and Riaz Ali of B.Com 1st yr were selected for attending Basket Ball Competition held by N.F. Railway in 2007.
  17. Sanjib Sharma, a student of T.D.C. Arts had participated in the Youth Festival, 2008 conducted by the Guwahati University Sports Board and won the first prize in Painting Competition and 2nd prize in Spot Painting Competition. He also won the 1st prize in College  and 3rd prize in Oil Painting Competition in the College Competitions.
  18. Mr. Jitumoni Das of TDC 1st year (Major student in English) has earned accolades in the theatrical world. He has worked as playwright, faculty member and Asst. Director in various theatre workshops all over the state in the name of ‘Sameer’, ‘Exhibition’, ‘POK’, ‘Mone-Nemane’, ‘Mone-Nubuje’, ‘Aparajita’, ‘The Invincible’ and ‘Khoj’.
      Jitumoni Das has won awards for his drama ‘Aparajita’ (Best Drama and Best Script) in the Drama and Performance festivals in NVS, National Integration Meet at Delhi, Balbhavan, Best Choreographer in the competitive TV Serial and Dance ‘Nupur’, for choreographing the title song of Jubin Garg’s album ‘Mukti.
      Jitumoni has also worked as Asst. Director in various films such as ‘Sahashi Rongmon’ produced and directed by noted Director Dara Ahmed; ‘Bewaris Laas’ (Hindi TV Serial) and North East Bol-Baby-Bol (Bilingual TV Serial). He worked as anchor and Choreographer for ‘Joubane Nemane Badha’ and ‘Mallika’ (TV Serial.
  • Mr. Trishan Barman of TDC 2nd year (Commerce) has worked as co-ordinator and asst. co-ordinator in various theatre workshops and is presently working as a Production Manager of “Angana”, a theatre group.
